Step by step

At the beginning of the war in Croatia 1991, Vjera Kralj stays alone in her demolished house on the Osijek front line. Her husband flees from the town, their son goes to the battlefield. Working as interpreter to raise money for a bullet – proof west to save her son’s life, Vjera meets unusual people through whose destinies we get to know the Panonian plain during two wars. This is a film about violence and victims, about a woman who needs the war to learn who she is and what she needs, who loses her husband only after he comes back to her, who leaves Osijek only after the war is over, a woman who is on a path of self-discovery.
